2 different opening sequences of films from different genres

http://http//www.watchthetitles.com/articles/0096-Silent_Hill

http://http//www.watchthetitles.com/articles/00106-Madagascar_Escape_2_Africa

Here are to clips and links to two films of different genres. One is audienced for kids and young children because of the funny characters and fun atmosphere. The other is a thriller called Silent Hill. You can tell that this is a thriller because of the dull grey colours and thre lifeless look within the clip.
The silent hill clip is dull and black representing a lifeless, unmotivated atmosphere of the film. The film is bound to be a thriller with much suspense and tension, not to mention the deaths and scary parts. The colours of grey and black indicate a dull mood and without a doubt inflicts the genre of the film to the audience before even watching the film.
The Madagascar clip is bright with loads of colours and animated clips which immediately indicate a happy and frivolous atmosphere within the film. The colours help show the fun atmosphere and show that the film is audienced for kids and young children.

My own sequence frame of Sweeny Todd

This is my own Sequence frame of the film 'Sweeny Todd'. I looked through the opening sequence and chose 9 detailed images which sum up the film without giving too much away as you can see from the picture. I made the picture by cutting and croping print screens and putting it together in paint and adding the white outline thoughout each frame to understand each frame. Athough the writing is not very viewable in this picture, it is clear in paint and is only blurry because the pixels havent been adjusted to put it on blogger. Overall I am very pleased with this sequence as it wasnt a homework task and was done in my own time to make my understanding of a title sequence more clear, meaning when it comes to making my own film , I am able to create a frame sequence as I have had the previous practice.

title sequence frames of Se7en

Se7en contact sheet

I put this picture on my blog to show how well a title sequence can make a film look good. There is 9 shots in this picture and each one is showing very little, giving very little away to the audience leaving them in amazement and confusion making them want to stay sand watch what happens. the use of the extreme close ups evokes the secrecy of the killer and his cunning and inhumane plans. This created the intrigue and interest felt by the audience and leaves them on the edge of their seats wanting to see more and more.

understanding the difference between a trailer and an opening sequence

This trailer of 'Paranormal Activity 2' starts out as recapping the first one saying that it was just the beginning. The trailer gives the audience a basic overview of the film and the comparison between the two but this one isn't the "beginning", it makes the audience want to watch it by showing the most scariest and most unbelievable parts in the scene to make you want to carry on from the first one. Many conventions are used in this trailer to create the horror type genre such as the clip of the woman screaming ' Get out of my house !' . This keeps the audience intrigued into wanting more and more. The use of suspense also reels the viewer into watching it more as it shows parts that happens but not what happens after, making the audience want to see the outcome. The clips are also very jolty and all over the place making it seem 'unreal' and 'inhumane' , and the fact that it is supposedly meant to be a true stories just makes the audience want to see it even more.

This is the opening sequence of the film "seven". In this sequence there are many quick clips and cuts of unusual objects and movements. This emphasises the strange and confusing twisted mind of the killer in the movie, portaying his lack of humane knowledge and his hunger for murders. The sequence itself is strange and different to usual sequences as it has a variety of quick cuts and unusual fade outs with all different types of weird objects coming up. the sequence gives a bit of information about what happens in the film and how mysterious the plots are.

The conventions which are used:
  • It tells the audience who the main actors are in the film
  • it gives a sample of how unusual the plots are
  • Some of the clips in the opening sequence may be included in the film
