Question 7.Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Question 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product

Research and Planning Blog- In my research and planning blogs I used many techniques to illustrate what I was researching and planning. Initial ideas for the film were taken from youtube which helped viewers understand what sort of concept my film was going to be about, also giving myself ideas of what to base my film upon. I also used to internet to view websites such as www.watchthetitles.com to view opening titles of films to give me ideas on how an opening sequence works. Furthermore I used 'DaFont', a website where you can download different styles of fonts which you can use on your film and in iMovie. This gave me a few ideas of fonts and we finally as a group decided what font to use.

Opening sequence- In my opening sequence I learnt about all different types of technologies used. Using the internet to research clips which are similar to what i want to create helped me get ideas for my final piece. I used mainly youtube and websites such as http://www.watchthetitles.com/ which shows many fabulous title sequences from all different genres and directors.

Music for my opening sequence- For the music for my opening sequence i used a variety of methods to search for the perfect sounds. I used a website called http://www.freesounds.com/ which gave loads of sounds and styles of music and genre. I also used iMovie sounds from garageband to use for ideas for my movie. Clips of other fims also helped me find the music for my film as it gave me ideas about what my music should be like.

Titles for my opening sequence-For my title sequence ,I looked thoroughly for titles of films of the same genre to see what colour and styles suit best. I used"watchthetitles" to help me get ideas of what a real film title will look like. Once i found a good title i then used livetype to put them over my film.

Audience feedback- For my audience feedback I uploaded my film onto Facebook and on Youtube to see what feedback could get and what i need to impove on and what people enjoyed about it. This will help me throughout my filming as this will help me for next time where i will improve on these issues and make my film even better.

Question 3. What kind of Media institution might distribute your media product and why ?

I think my media product would be a good film for a small film making business which helps broadcast films to small groups of people and which is also used to help people with ideas of low budget filming, and the creativity you can have with a very low budget. I believe my film wil attract certain people who enjoy creative, independant films which show thought and good planning throughout. Also people who enjoy thriller movies with a twist, and as our idea as based on the film 'Taken' it should hopefully attract people who also enjoy that film or films like that. I would say my film is more of an 'Independant film' as it isnt in a major studio and is on a very low budget and i aimed for smaller audiences. Some examples of independant films are Donnie Darko, Reservoir dogs, The Terminator and Mean Street.

Question 2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

I believe that this film challenges stereotype as well as going against the usual stereotype. Firstly, our film is about the kidnapping of a mans daughter. In a film where there is a kidnapp it is usually a daughter who is kidnapped therefore we match the stereotype of women beingmore vulnerable and more of a target than men. We showed this in the film by the character speaking to his daughter on the phone whilst being watched by the kidnapper, although the kidnapping isnt shown, i believe we give enough evidence and storyline in our film to explain to the audience that the daughter is going to be kidnapped.

I believe that we didnt match the usual stereotype in the way that the characters are portayed. Our victim ( father ) is a tall man and the kidnapper is smaller. I believe that a kidnapper would tend to me more taller and broader as it will make the kidnapper look the part better, and if the father was more of a smaller guy, maybe representing the stereotype of smaller people being more targeted.

Question 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products ?

In this question I will comment on how my film uses media products through the use of conventions and other real media products. Throughout my film i used a lot of conventions and media products to produce a good media product. I tried to keep my film as simple and as thriller-like as possible, giving it the convention of the dark old effect of black and white and also the non-linear effect of seeing the ending before the beginning. In our film we have a thriller like flashback where you see the outcome of the plot leaving the viewer confused of what is happening and then it has the flashback, in our case '24 Hours before' and then the beginning is revealed for the audience to unravell. We tried to keep our titles quite simple as well as the title itself, making it a neutral blue colour and keep the style throughout the whole title sequence. The music was quite an important convention in our film as we had to make the music realistic and match what is happening. We searched music and sounds to do withs suspense, tension, violenceand thriller and tried finding out the best type to fit our film. They had to be upbeat, quick and create tension which they did.
